To keep your vehicle in proper working order tune-ups are necessary, but only when you actually need one.
So...When is that?
If you on a vehicle that is older and does not have an electric ignition then your vehicle will need a tune-up more often.
Every 10,000 -12,000 miles or once per year, which ever comes first.
However, if you own a newer vehicle, they are equipped with electric ignition and a fuel injection system, which means less tune-ups are necessary.
For most new cars no major tune-up is needed for 25,000 to 100,000 miles, be sure to check your vehicle's handbook to see if it is time to schedule a tune-up for your vehicle!
